Interesting News

Here is another interesting fact….the State of Florida is not alone in what has occurred in the attached article below.

When SAN received this information, it started researching other states because SAN has clients nationwide.  It was alarming to find out that there are over three (3) dozen states nationwide that have the same funding issue.  This article is just one article to make you aware of what is going on and discovered in the State of Florida.  If any client looks and researches into their own home state, if they are not in Florida, I am sure that they will find what we found.  The information is disturbing and disappointing, but we wanted to make you aware that this issue is going on everywhere, not just Florida, and if you are aware, you can make the appropriate decisions as an informed decisionmaker taking care of the Special Needs person in your family.

Nonprofit's analysis shows Florida left nearly $800M unspent for people with disabilities

The ARC of Florida says the unused funds were enough to support medical treatments, therapy and housing for 23,000 people on a state waiting list.

According to an Orlando Sentinel report, the ARC of Florida says the unused funds were enough to support medical treatments, therapy and housing for 23,000 people on a state waiting list.

Nearly $800 million in state and federal matching funds meant for Floridians with lifelong disabilities have gone unspent over the past two years.

According to an Orlando Sentinel report, this came to light after a budget analysis was conducted by The ARC of Florida, a nonprofit organization that advocates for services for people with disabilities.

The nonprofit says the unused funds were enough to support medical treatments, therapy and housing for 23,000 people on a state waiting list.

The state has not offered an explanation.

The ARC of Florida said $287 million budgeted for disability services were not spent and could have drawn a federal match of $496 million, the Sentinel reported. The unspent money is in a state bank account, accumulating interest.
